Honors student Sayumi Ranasinghe graduated this month with a B.S. in Microbiology and will spend next year at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany as a Fulbright researcher. Sayumi will take her experience studying viral diseases to a project on con-infections of avian influenza and Newcastle disease.
Biochemistry graduate Madison Cocker will spend the coming year in Germany at the University of Tübingen studying the impact of two extracellular matrix proteins on islet transplantation outcomes with potential therapeutic applications to Type 1 diabetes.
Rising seniors Alharith Dameh and Kalybe VanWatermeulen have been selected to the cohort of 2025 Astronaut Scholars by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. In addition to scholarship funds, they will receive mentoring and professional development support and have the opportunity to present their research at the ASF Innovation Symposium.
