May 12, 2025

CBS and UHP Senior Marie Ronnander has been offered a Fulbright award to support research in Spain during the coming academic year. Marie will graduate this week with major in Biochemistry and a minor in Spanish. For the last two years she has been working with Professor Lawrence Wackett to develop enzymes with the potential to break down PFAS in the environment. As a Fulbrighter, she will continue to work on this problem with Professor Silvia Osuna Oliveras, a computational chemist at the University of Girona. Marie has also been a writer and executive director at The Wake, and she is as committed to communicating effectively about science as she is to pursuing research. In the future she plans to complete a PhD and solve problems of environmental toxicology.
